Ranthambhor

Ranthambhor
A famous fort located northwest of Chitor that was ruled by Chahamanas in the 12th century. After the defeat of Prithviraja III in the battle of Tarain (1192), Ranthambhor was oc-cupied by the Ghaurids, but soon it was regained by defiant Rajput chieftains. Iltutmish had to recover this fort from them in 1226-1227. Ranthambhor again came under the control of the Cha-hamanas toward the end of the 13th century. 'Ala al-Din Khalji (1296-1316) annexed Ranthambhor to the Delhi sultanate in 1301 after defeating and killing Hammir Deo at the end of a prolonged siege.
